Noise reduction

As mastic asphalt is one of the dense coatings, noise reduction can only be achieved by a favorable design of the surface texture. The noise reduction potential ranges between 4 and 8 dB. This can be achieved by the following measures:

  • fine-grained and closely graded grain size (e.g. mono-grained)
  • optimized grain shape (cubic grain shape as possible, and low proportion of unfavorably shaped grains)

Together with the BAST (Federal Highway Research Institute), a decisive contribution to the development of low-noise road surfaces was made during the construction of the B56 test track near Düren.
